Penn State Dance Marathon: Family Relations Director

Penn State is home to the world's largest student-run philanthropy: THON. THON provides financial relief to families impacted by pediatric cancer, funds cancer research, and provides emotional support for families. This year I served on the Executive Committee as the Family Relations Director. As the Family Relations Director I was tasked with leading a team of 25 students, running emotional programs and events for over 300 families, and coordinating support for over 175 different student organizations.

My time with THON taught me a plethora of lessons. Most importantly, I learned what it means to be a good leader. I have had many jobs and been a part of many teams, but what I learned is that as a leader, it is vital that you treat your team like family. Working collectively and being invested in your team's work and day-to-day lives creates a bond that lasts through adversity.
